Bridgeport News: Game Stop Robbery (With Video)

Bridgeport, Conn. (June 22, 2015) – Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male responsible for an armed robbery.  The incident occurred at the Game Stop located at 4571 Main St. on Friday at about 2 p.m.   “Detectives are working hard to identify this individual,” said Deputy Police Chief Adam Radzimirski, who oversees the detective division. “We’re asking anyone who recognizes him to contact detectives.” The suspect displayed a knife and fled with money.     Detectives are working with investigators in a neighboring town to determine if the suspect also is responsible for a robbery there on Thursday.  Anyone with information in regards to the identity of this suspect is asked to contact Detective Jorge Cintron…

First Use Of The Term “Cool” in Bridgeport?

Multiple online sources say the term "cool" was said to have been popularized in jazz circles by tenor saxophonist Lester Young in 1933.  The Laborde-Gelman Co. Store at 1138-1144 Main Street in Bridgeport may have this first honor.  Here is an advertisement in the Bridgeport Farmer newspaper dated June 20, 1910 saying the store is cool.  Air conditioning was invented but did not go into commercial use until 1922 when Carrier made the units small enough to be practical.

Bridgeport News: Sniper Rifles Seized

  #Bridgeport CT (June 19, 2015) – A Monroe man was jailed on $500,000 bond after police apprehended him with five guns, including two assault weapons, that investigators believe he intended to sell to a drug dealer.   The seizure and arrest was made by the Statewide Urban Violence Cooperative Crime Control Task Force, which is a joint task force that consists of Bridgeport Police, the Connecticut State Police and Department of Corrections.
