Fairfield News: Evenings of Wellness

The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and The Norma Pfriem Breast Center will host its fifth lecture in the new 2016-2017 series of nine “Evenings of Wellness” on February 1st. This lecture topic is: Heart Health (February is American Heart month).  The lecture will be given by Ram Gordon, M.D.: Dr. Gordon attended the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate and the University of Pittsburgh where he studied medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania and his fellowship at Mt. Sinai in New York. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular heart disease and nuclear cardiology. He works at Cardiac Specialists, in affiliation with Bridgeport Hospital. #Fairfield The town of Fairfield is facing some new and unique challenges. The loss of the town's largest taxpayer- General Electric and the tax exempt Sacred Heart University has purchased the property.  The state of Connecticut has cut back funding especially to schools.   First Selectman Mike Tetreau addressed these concerns as well as summarized the town's departments challenges and accomplishments.

On 01/20/2017 at 2:45am Officers were patrolling the area of Kings Highway East and Berwick Avenue as a result of increased late-night activity from Sky–Hookah Lounge. Officers observed a black Buick with two occupants inside, parked in a nearby lot, with the interior dome light illuminated. As officers walked by the vehicle they could see one of the occupants with marijuana on his lap. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 389.5 grams (almost 1lb.) of marijuana packaged for distribution, in addition to approximately $2,400.00 in cash. Breath of Summer in January @ the Fairfield Public Library

#Fairfield, CT--Butterflies in My Backyard…what a lovely thought during the frigid month of January. The Fairfield Public Library will be hosting Lepidopterist Victor DeMasi on Saturday, January 21 at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. The program will be held at 2 pm in the Rotary Room. DeMasi will take us through his butterfly meadow in Redding, CT and show us some of the rare and common species he has seen in his forty years of stewardship. There will be a discussion of butterflies in our changing environment with issues such as climate change and invasive plant species.
