Red Cross Seeks New Volunteers In Fairfield County

The American Red Cross is looking for new volunteers in Fairfield County to help respond to house fires. The Red Cross will host a one-day disaster volunteer training event to train new volunteers on how to assist families immediately after a house fire.   The training day will take place at the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center, 581 North Washington Avenue, Bridgeport on Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.   “Disaster volunteers are needed every day across our region,” said Neil Brockway, Regional Disaster Officer, American Red CrossConnecticut & Rhode Island Region. “We usually see an increase in house fires during the winter months, so we are looking for additional compassionate, community-oriented individuals to join our volunteer Disaster…

Fairfield News: High-tension wire worker Electrocuted

UPDATE: UPDATE: I just spoke with Fairfield Police Deputy Chief Chris Lyddy and he said he also has preliminary information regarding this. A 16 year old boy was electrocuted and burned while at the cascade area of Lake Mohegan. The extent of his burns are not certain right now but he was able to walk to the first responders under his own power. Another 16 year old girl was also suffered minor burns not from electrocution but from help the boy. She may have panicked and left the scene and went back to the high school where police called EMS to treat her burns which were thought to be minor. Fairfield News: McKinley School Water Update

As a part of the school district’s response to the accidental introduction of a solution containing sodium nitrate into the hot water system at McKinley School on October 31, I have been consulting with state and local public health officials regarding the potential consequences of exposure to this substance.    Approximately one gallon of the sodium nitrite solution - diluted to about 40% - 50% - was introduced into the school’s hot water system.  The sodium nitrite was further diluted by the many gallons of water contained in the hot water system.   Based on an assessment by the Aquarion Water Company of the plumbing arrangements at the school, it has been determined that there was likely no “intermixing” between…

The Cold War Series at Fairfield Library

[Fairfield, CT, October 21, 2016] The Fairfield Public Library, 1080 Old Post Road will be hosting a historical series with popular host, Mark Albertson. There will be four parts to this series, The Cold War, which will begin November 3: Kennan and Containment, November 10: The Bear Grows Claws, November 17: Détente and Arms Control and December 8: Quagmire.
