Fairfield Family Holiday Giving Program

Fairfield Social Services has kicked off its 2022 Family Holiday Giving Program to help Fairfield families in need during the Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas Holiday season. Last year 150 families received gift cards, generously donated by their neighbors, including individuals, businesses, faith-based and community organizations.
Every year we see more families struggling to pay their utilities and heat their homes. During this special, yet stressful time of year, we are again requesting gift cards for supermarkets, gas stations, local stores and businesses, Amazon, Target, and Walmart – anywhere families may shop for their loved ones for the holidays. The ability to select and purchase gifts provides our clients another level of independence in an otherwise difficult time.
Donations are accepted during business hours, 9 AM to 4:30 PM, at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities 100 Mona Terrace, Fairfield CT 06824. For more information about making a donation or requesting assistance, please contact Fairfield Social Services at 203-256-3170 or email socialservices@fairfieldct.org.
On behalf of the families that receive the holiday gifts, the Town of Fairfield Department of Human and Social Services would like to thank the community for keeping all our residents in mind for the upcoming holiday season.

Fairfield News: Penfield Pavilion & Fill Pile Court Update

Fairfield First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick released this report:

Former Fairfield public works superintendent Scott Bartlett, former conservation director and interim director of public works Brian Carey, former Fairfield human resources director Emmet Hibson and the co-owner of Julian Enterprises, Jason Julian, all applied for and were denied accelerated rehabilitation. Former CFO Robert Mayer’s decision was postponed until December 20th. It’s important to note that the Deputy DEEP Commissioner was present in the hearing and spoke out against the applications for accelerated rehabilitation.

Many residents have expressed to me their frustration and asked how they can share their opinion with the court. Residents are able to object to Mr. Mayer’s accelerated rehabilitation by emailing the court here. I realize this has dragged on for three years and sadly the trial and court proceedings won’t come to a conclusion until early next year. Some of the delay is due to the court’s backlog of cases as a result of COVID and understandably they’re prioritizing murder and first degree assaults. I do want to assure our community that this case is still very important to the State’s Attorney and it is being pursued vigorously.

The last update I provided to our elected officials and community was on September 1. You can watch that meeting here or read my newsletter following the meeting here. As outlined in the presentation, the remediation of the contaminated fill at the fill pile itself and sites around Town, including underneath Penfield Pavilion and in the parking lot, are still in progress.

Tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer money is being wasted cleaning up this mess that could have been used for much-needed projects in town. Addressing this issue has consumed hundreds of hours that would be much better spent on other important Town matters. What was allowed to happen in this town is an atrocity, from the criminal cases, arrests, the employees who were used in the process, and the harm done to public trust in government.

Fairfield News: K-9 Ruger Crosses the “Rainbow Bridge”

#Fairfield CT– I’m sad to report that K-9 Ruger of the Fairfield Police Department was put down this morning. In 2011 Ruger was the first K-9 in the Fairfield Police Department. His handler was Officer Kevin Wells. In 2015 Ruger suffered on-the-job injuries that forced his retirement. Ruger was named after the Ruger Firearms company headquarters in Southport. The K-9 program in Fairfield is funded by private funds from citizens, school children participating in fundraisers, and local businesses like BMW of Bridgeport. Ruger was 12 years old.

Job well done and thank you for your service, Ruger!
