Video: Lennie Grimaldi Guest Speaker At University of Bridgeport

Veteran journalist and public relations consultant Lennie Grimaldi was at the  Discovery Pavilion in the Wahlstrom Library at the University of Bridgeport last week.

“I’ll be reaching back to share 40 years of stories as a working journalist and public relations consultant.” Hear about Donald Trump, Exorcist star Linda Blair, mob infiltrator Billy Chase, wise guys, Hells Angels and the FBI. And there will be colorful tales about Connecticut characters who add spice to the Nutmeg State.

“We’re excited to bring the real-world experience of Mr. Grimaldi to campus,” said CPIA Dean Thomas Ward.  Lennie Grimaldi blogging returns on Only in Bridgeport during the 2016 Bridgeport mayoral race. The event was organized by CPIA Mass Communications Professor Susan Katz, who has worked closely with Mr. Grimaldi for over 25 years on commercial and political campaigns.

Grimaldi is an award-winning journalist whose work has appeared in hundreds of newspapers and magazines including The New York Times, TV Guide, Yankee Magazine and Connecticut Magazine. He is the founder and host of the webzine Only In Bridgeport, devoted to government and politics in Connecticut’s largest city. Grimaldi is the author of Bow Tie Banker (Kolumns), a biography of David Carson, the retired CEO of Peoples Bank, and Chased (New Horizon), the life of mob infiltrator Billy Chase. He is also the author of Connecticut Whistle Stops: Greenwich to New Haven (Arcadia) and Only In Bridgeport (first edition Windsor Publications, second edition Harbor Communications, third edition Momentum Communications).

He brings a wide array of corporate communications and public relations experience. His clients have included Wal-Mart Stores and Donald Trump. For Wal-Mart Grimaldi directed a community and media relations campaign for the conversion of an EPA cleanup site in Stratford, CT into a new Wal-Mart retail outlet. For Trump, he handled communications during the hotly debated casino expansion issue before the Connecticut Legislature. Grimaldi directed a crisis management campaign on behalf of the City of Bridgeport in the aftermath of the L’Ambiance building collapse that took 28 lives. He served as senior campaign adviser to Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim in the 1990s.

He has won awards for journalistic excellence from the Society of Professional Journalists, Connecticut Chapter and United Press International. Grimaldi has also written dozens of radio campaigns and corporate-crafted history programs for companies such as Louis Rich, HBO, Tropicana, Excedrin, Nivea, SNET, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Campbell Soup and Apple.

A fascinating talk, here it is in it’s entirety:

4 Pound Powerhouse Porterhouse by Cast Iron Chef Attilio Marini

Attilio Marini has added mouth-watering sizzle to the menu at Marisa’s in Trumbull, CT a unique cooking process that features cuts of meat presented in steaming cast iron skillets blending a sensual marriage of crust on the outside with tenderness on the inside.
His signature is the 4-pound powerhouse porterhouse for two, sliced off the bone delivered in a sizzling skillet with potatoes, butter and roasted garlic.
“I don’t like the taste of char broiled meat,” Chef Marini says. “I knew there had to be a better way to make a steak and creating the perfect crust, which is my signature. When you dine with us the experience is a memorable meal at a tasty price below the cost of high-end steakhouses. This is an old way of cooking with a new twist,” he says of preparation in cast iron.
Cast iron cooking requires intensely hot ovens and stove tops. The jaw-dropping presentation at the table doubles the delight of dinner customers, according to Tom Purcell who travels from Ansonia in the Naugatuck Valley to the restaurant on a regular basis for the beefy experience.
“It’s incredible the way they cut it,” says Purcell. “When it arrives you admire it for a bit before digging in. And the caramelized garlic, wow.”

Kids Run The Bluefish Ballpark Contest

The Bridgeport Bluefish and All Kids Dental held a joint press conference at All Kids Dental on Wednesday, February 24 at 3:30 pm to announce their “Kids Run the Ballpark” Essay Competition. Nine children between the ages of 10-13 will be selected to shadow and assist a Bluefish employee on Saturday, April 30, when the Bluefish take on the New Britain Bees at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. This will be a one- of-a-kind opportunity for young kids to see what it takes to run a baseball team. It will allow them to get up close and personal with the inner workings of the Bluefish day to day operations.

“We are thrilled to partner with All Kids Dental for this special contest,” said Bluefish General Manager Jamie Toole. “The idea originally came to us from a young man named Aiden Blanc, an aspiring sports radio broadcaster from Fairfield County. He reached out to us about assisting our current broadcaster, Mike Mohr, in the radio booth for a game this season. We loved the idea, so we decided to make an entire day out of it and invite even more kids to join the Bluefish staff for the day.”  The other available jobs include: general manager, field manager, grounds keeper, public relations/baseball  operations, ticket sales, community relations, on-field promotions, stadium operations, and mascot handler.
