#Fairfield CT– Tuesday Senior Helpers located at 1700 Post Road in Fairfield held their ribbon cutting at their offices. Owner Katie Vanovitch said Senior Helpers mission is to allow senior citizens to maintain their independence for as long as possible within their home. They also provide the family caregiver the relief they need so they can continue with their daily lives.
This was the first ribbon cutting I brought my wife to because she is the primary caregiver to her 88-year-old mother and 94-year-old father and it was an opportunity for her to get some new resources in tending to their needs.

#Bridgeport CT– Captains Cove and Seaport at 1 Bostwick Avenue in Bridgeport is a great place for people of all ages. Next time you are down there you have to visit my friend Sue from a Shore Thing on the boardwalk. At A Shore Thing you can purchase candy you use to get as child like the satellite wafers (sort of like communion wafers!), the fortune bubble gum, Pop Rocks, Air Heads, Nerds, candy buttons or my favorite the Chunky Bars! You can create your own custom mermaid crown with shells, starfish and sand dollars. You can also create your own custom locket, purchase nautical gifts, customized seashell signs, sea glass jewelry and so many other things you can’t find anywhere else. They also have a game for the kids to dig for gold coins to trade for prizes! Oh and let’s not forget the salt water taffy!
Meatball Heaven, located at the Arcade Mall at 1001 Main Street in Bridgeport is not only good food but is also good for local kids. Meatball Heaven was started in 2016 by Work to Learn, a pre-employment training program that gives work experience to young adults while showing them how to run a successful business through the Boy’s and Girl’s Village. At Meatball Heaven the students learn how to cook food, they learn basic job skills, they learn how to clean, the roll and make their own meatballs, the make sauces and they serve them in bread cones, in a grinder over rice or pasta or salad. They also make home made soups as well. My son assisted me in the video production and we both ordered ours in a grinder and enjoyed them very much! Oh, I almost forgot to mention that pizza is available on Fridays!
When you come to Meatball Heaven not only are you enjoying a delicious meal but you are also helping serve your community by providing employment experiences for our youth ages 16 to 21 years in our area. Every dollar you give goes back into the program. They also run Do Me A Favor which is a party favor business and we also have Design IQ and Print which is a printing and design business.

First Selectman Mike Tetreau and other Town officials and invited guests celebrated the restaurant’s grand opening with an official ribbon cutting ceremony. 348 Oyster Bar is a modern, contemporary seafood restaurant offering Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with fresh, local ingredients. Popular dishes include the oyster po-boy and “isla mujeres” fish tacos, as well as skipper’s fisherman’s stew and Manhattan clam chowder, which garnered top honors for Chef Fernando Garcia at 2014’s Chowdafest competition. I met with Manny Alves, owner of T-Rex Audio located at 1324 Stratford Avenue in Stratford who will be advertising with us. He specializes in installation of car remote starters, alarms as well as car audio and video. Manny at T-Rex Audio has been at the same location for over fifteen years.
You have heard me report many times of cars being stolen while warming up, even with the owner just a few feet away. It only takes a few seconds to lose your car this way! My wife has a remote starter in her car and she uses it year round because even in the spring the car can get really hot inside parked in the sun, in the summer the temperatures will be super hot. Even if you have an older car doesn’t mean you have to live with an out of date stereo system. I’ve got my eye on the touch screen Bluetooth system for my 2002 Subaru. I don’t want to get rid of the car because it is still so reliable and is better to drive in the bad weather than the Interstate race car. Some of the systems Manny sells have back up cameras as well. Let’s face it, that is part of the fun driving experience is having a decent sound system!

I had fun meeting the children and staff at the Creative Starts Learning Center at 2189 Barnum Avenue in Stratford yesterday. The kids loved seeing the Interstate race car and the staff was quick to be creative and had the children identify the colors of the car and the number on the car. Their favorite sticker on the car was the M&M bag–mine too!
I asked director Marta Saklawska to describe here facilities, she said:
At Creative Starts Learning Center we strive to provide a healthy and safe environment that allows children to grow and learn through a variety of physical, social, emotional and intellectual activities. We provide care for children 6 weeks to 12 years old with individual programs for infants, toddlers, preschool, pre-k and before/after school. Our wonderful group of teachers are trained in First Aid, CPR, and to administer medication. We are licensed by the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood.

As I mentioned, the staff was so friendly. One thing I did notice and Marta failed to report was that I found the facility to be extremely clean which would be a huge consideration if I were looking for a a child care facility for my children!
