Bridgeport News: Schools Locked In/Out

This press release is due to a viewer tip. Because of the tip we were able to ask about it and get a response: At 1035hrs the Bridgeport ECC received several calls regarding an male party displaying a firearm in front of people on Fairfield Avenue. Due to these reports Bassick HS, Curiale, and Batalla schools on a Lock-In/Lock-Out as a precaution. BPD responded to the area and are investigating. At this time the emergency procedure has been lifted. For clarification purposes, a lock-in and lock-out is not a lock down. GOVERNOR LAMONT ANNOUNCES INITIAL ROUND OF BACK TO WORK CT BONUS PAYMENTS BEING MAILED THIS WEEK

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that the first round of the $1,000 bonus payments authorized through the Back to Work CT program are being mailed this week to more than 1,500 eligible applicants who are among the initial group of workers participating in the program. Established by Governor Lamont in May, the Back to Work CT program is designed to provide an additional bonus payment to long-term unemployed workers who live in Connecticut, are transitioning back to the workforce, and have obtained new jobs. It is supported by Connecticut’s Coronavirus Relief Fund, which utilizes federal funding obtained through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES ACT). Bridgeport News: Structure Fire

2021-08-30@3:57pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Firefighters were called to the 400 block of Benham Avenue for a fire on the 2nd the 3rd floor of a multi-family home. Everyone made it out safely and there were no reported injuries. The fire marshal was called to investigate the cause. The American Red Cross is helping four families – seven adults – three children after a fire today on Benham Ave., Bridgeport. The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families' immediate needs. Responders included: Mark Rozelle, Ben Yambao and Susan Shaw.

Fairfield News: 4 Year Old Child Found

2021-08-30@5:11pm--#Fairfield CT-- #Bridgeport CT-- A four year old child, possibly special needs was found by Mercedes Benz employees on Scofield Avenue. The child was found wearing pajamas and was thought to be out there for quite sometime according to radio reports. He was playing by the river and the employees brought him inside until police arrived. The mother reported the child missing and at 5:27pm the mother was on her way to the dealership. Governor Ned Lamont today announced that at the advice of Connecticut Department of Public Health Acting Commissioner Dr. Deidre Gifford, he is directing Connecticut’s COVID-19 vaccine program to implement the recommendations released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday regarding the administration of third doses of COVID-19 vaccines to individuals who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. On Thursday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration amended the emergency use authorization for both the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to allow for certain individuals with compromised immune systems to receive a third dose. Bridgeport News: Another Shooting

On August 29, 2021 just after midnight the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received a shot spotter activation within the 500 block of Grant Street (5 rounds fired).  Minutes later patrol officers were updated;  a person had been shot at that location and the victim was being transported to Bridgeport Hospital by a family member. The victim, a 28-year-old Bridgeport man, was suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.  He went into surgery early this morning and remains at the hospital in critical condition.      B.P.D. Detectives responded to the hospital and crime scene.  Interviews were conducted, the scene was photographed, and evidence was collected.  This is an isolated incident where the victim likely knew the shooter.
