Westport Seeking Volunteers For 2015-2016 Youth Commission

The Town of #Westport is seeking rising sophomores and adult volunteers to join its Youth Commission for 2015-2016. The Youth Commission is responsible for promoting the positive development of all youth in their families, schools, community, and among their peers. The Commission assesses the needsand interests of young people in Westport, encouraging programs, and developing resources to respond to these needs. The Commission meets monthly throughout the school year. In addition to general meetings, members also serve on advocacy groups according to their interests and based on new initiatives. “The Youth Commission serves as a public forum for youth issues and advocates for youth needs and concerns in the community,” Human Services Director Barbara Butler said.  “Its 30 members, 15 students and 15 adults, are appointed by the first selectman.” Incoming…

4:38pm--#Westport CT--Firefighters on scene at 10 Bluff Road for a house fire.   Fire in the walls in the living room extended to adjoining bedrooms.  Norwalk and Fairfield provided mutual aid to cover empty fire houses.  Westport firefighters had the bulk of the fire out within a half hour.  There was no reported injuries.   This report sponsored by:

#Westport CT--On Tuesday, June 26, 2015 the Westport Police Department swore in a new police officer. The ceremony took place Westport Town Hall at 12:00 P.M. The hiring of the officer fills vacancies created by the retirement since May 2015 and brings the department to full strength. The following individual was sworn in as Westport Police Officer: David Perez Age 41 is the Westport Police Departments newest member. Prior to his hiring by the Westport Police Department, Mr. Perez was a police officer with the West Haven Police Department from November 1999 thru January 2014 he was assigned to the Patrol Division, Street Crimes Unit and Detective Bureau during his tenure. Police Pursuit Starting in Westport Ends in Trumbull

UPDATE: Rafael Vasquez, 25 of 181 Hampton Street, Hartford was arrested when the  stolen vehicle he was riding in was spotted driving erratically near exit 18 in Westport.  State Police attempted to pull the car over but lost sight of it near exit 16.  Police learned the vehicle was stolen out of Mamaroneck, New York which lead to speculation from reporters that it may have been one of the escaped convicts from Clinton Correctional Facility on June 6.  State Police fielded calls from People Magazine afterwards.   Westport Police picked up the pursuit on Route 1 heading towards Fairfield and Fairfield Police entered the chase when they entered their town.  The black Honda Civic then got on I-95 northbound at exit…

Westport CT--Screening of the film THE GOOD LIE with Screenwriter Margaret Nagle, June 24 at 6:30 pm at Westport Woman’s Club A screening of the film, The Good Lie about the “Lost Boys” of Sudan will take place on Wednesday, June 24 at 6:30 pm at The Westport Woman’s Club, located at 44 Imperial Avenue in Westport. It will be followed by a talkback with the screenwriter, Margaret Nagle.  The program is free and open to the public, presented in partnership with The Westport Library, TEAM Westport and The Westport Woman’s Club. Westport News: Criminal Trespass

Westport CT--May 23, 2015 at 11:00am--Police responded to a report of an unwanted person inside the complainant’s apartment. Everhart was living with the complainant prior to the complaint and had returned to retrieve his belongings as they were no longer dating which resulted in a verbal disturbance. Everhart allegedly broke a window to gain access to the apartment, but told police that the window came off the track when he was opening it. Everhart was taken into police custody and charged with Criminal Trespass 1st degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and was released on a promise to appear in court. Westport News: “Man” Hits Girlfriend Then Dog

On Wednesday May 13th 2015 Westport Officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance between two people living together. During the investigation it was alleged that the boyfriend had become physical with his  girlfriend and then struck her dog prior to throwing it outside of the house. Additionally there was a protective order in place for the suspect from a prior domestic incident. Arrested was Martin Smiley (age 67) of Westport Connecticut Smiley was charged with: Criminal Violation of a Protective Order C.G.S 53a-223 Disorderly Conduct C.G.S 53a-182 Cruelty to Animals C.G.S 53-247 Smiley was issued a $2500 bond and was issued a court date of May 14th, 2015 at Norwalk Court.
