National Radon Action Month

January is National Radon Action Month and the Naugatuck Valley Health District (NVHD) is recommending residents to test their homes for radon gas, the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers. While supplies last, residents in the towns of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Naugatuck, Seymour, and Shelton can pick up a FREE radon test kit at the health department located at 98 Bank Street in Seymour starting Monday, January 8, 2018. Stratford News: Police Update On Kidnapping/Abduction

#Stratford CT--On 01-03- 2108 The Stratford Police investigated an incident at the Honeyspot Motor Inn located at 360 Honeyspot Road. The initial call came in as a possible abduction. During the investigation, a woman was found bound with duct tape in a motel room. During the investigation, Officers learned that the woman had been reported missing in the State of Iowa on New Year's Eve. During the investigation in which the woman claimed that she had been abducted Officers learned that she had in fact left the state voluntarily and the claim was found to be false that she was held against her will. Bridgeport Snow Emergency Update

Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport snow emergency is still in effect today, January 5, 2018 and until further notice to allow for continued citywide snow clean up and plow service. During the snow emergency, residents must move their cars off posted SNOW EMERGENCY streets and ADDITIONAL STREETS WILL BE POSTED to allow snow plow drivers to clear passages. Snow emergency streets are marked with white signs with red lettering. A list of snow streets can be found on the City’s website by clicking here. No Place Like Home Drive

Easton, CT-- Easton ACTS (Area Congregations Together in Service) will host a refugee awareness and household goods collection event called ‘No Place Like Home’, Saturday, January 20, 2018, 7pm at Covenant Church of Easton, 1 Sport Hill Rd.,Easton, CT 06612. Westport News: Pot Bust

(Westport, CT) On December 29, 2017 at approximately 4:45pm, a detective observed a vehicle traveling with a non-functioning tail light. A motor vehicle stop was conducted on Compo Road South. Upon approach, an odor of marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle. The operator was identified as Williman Olivero, 27, of Norwalk, CT. With the assistance of a Westport K-9 unit, multiple glassine bags of marijuana packaged for sale, a scale, and “vape” cartridges containing THC oil were located and seized. Officers learned Olivero had been selling the marijuana while working in Westport. In total, more than 67 grams of marijuana were seized along with currency believed to be the proceeds from marijuana sales. Olivero was taken into custody…

Our Snow Shoveling for Seniors program connects seniors and people with disabilities in Fairfield with students who are willing to provide snow shoveling services. Once we have a list of student shovelers, we’ll distribute it. Those enrolled in the program are responsible for contacting the volunteer from the list provided and for making financial or scheduling arrangements.
