Bridgeport News: Robber Shoots Self During Aprehension

8:59pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Just before 9am Mike's Supermarket at 375 Capitol Avenue was robbed at gunpoint by a Hispanic male wearing a mask brandishing a small caliber handgun. The suspect fled on foot down Parrot Avenue and police gave chase. The suspect turned down Charles where he encountered a police sergeant who tackled him. The sergeant injured his hand taking him down. The suspect's gun went off during the take down shooting the suspect in the leg. The gun and money were both recovered at the scene.

Bridgeport News: Rehab Grants

#Bridgeport Connecticut--State Senators Ed Gomes and Marilyn Moore (D-Bridgeport)  welcomed a significant state investment of funds to rehabilitate affordable housing units in Bridgeport. The State Bond Commission approved $1.98 million in state funding for the project during a meeting February 1, 2017. In total the project will cost an estimated $3.39 million. Specifically, the new bonding will provide a grant-in- aid to the Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust, Inc., to assist with the rehabilitation of 25 total units at the Bishop Place and Seaview Apartments. “I’m very supportive of any development that helps Bridgeport grow. Bridgeport News: Fire On Central Avenue

5:11pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Fire that started in a living room at 1165 Central Avenue may have spread through the walls and caused a smoke condition on the third floor. All occupants had safely made it out of the two family home. Radio reports said one hose line was in operation and a second hose was on it's way. Within minutes the evacuation tones sounded and all the firefighters were called to evacuate the home. Shortly flames were shooting through the roof and an exterior attack was used by firefighters and the roof had collapsed. The fire did not extend to any nearby homes.
