Bridgeport News: Home Invasion Suspect Captured

9:58pm--#Bridgeport CT--A car wanted in a home invasion on Price Street earlier was located by the K-9 officer on patrol near Seely and Cottage Street. He called for backup before he attempted to pull him over. The driver drove on Lewis Street when they attempted the stop. The suspect bailed and attempted to run but K-9 loves fast food and quickly brought him down. EMS was called for his bite wound. Police were looking for three males but only one was in the car.

Bridgeport News: Structure Fire

8:11pm--#Bridgeport CT--Firefighters received a call for a fire behind a home on Cleveland Avenue.  Police were first on scene and directed the firefighters to the correct address of 1405 Capitol Avenue and then checked the structure for any people or animals.  They then began evacuating the next door neighbors as well as their pets.  Firefighters arrived and found heavy fire in the back of the home.  Firefighters made an attack from the front, back and in the air and had the fire under control in about fifteen minutes.  They also confirmed the police's initial reports that everyone made it out safely.

Bridgeport News: Prisoner Escapes

  #Bridgeport, Conn. (October 21, 2015) -- Today the Bridgeport Police Department is alerting the public that a man arrested for a non-violent burglary is currently at large.  On October 20, 2015 at around 6:30 a.m., Nelson Vega (01/03/86) of Henry St. in Stratford was arrested and booked for burglary.   On October 21, 2015 at approximately 9:30 a.m., police officers began the process of transferring Vega from the Bridgeport Police Department to the Golden Hill St. courthouse to be arraigned.  While being transferred Vega escaped police custody. The Bridgeport Police Department and nearby Police Departments are actively pursuing Vega.   The Bridgeport Police Department is asking that anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of Vega contact the Bridgeport Detective Bureau…

The Westport Emergency Management Team with Westport Board of Education Staff took part in an exercise to simulate a severe weather event effecting a school. Under the direction of Fire Chief Kingsbury, the Emergency Management Director for the Town of Westport, the Emergency Operations Center was staffed and exercised a plan to deal with a severe weather event. The exercise concluded with a conference call with the Governor at the State Emergency Operations Center in Hartford.
