Malloy today joined groups of advocates and state officials at a bill signing ceremony to commemorate two new pieces of legislation that aim to tackle rising student loan debt and college affordability. The first – Public Act 15-200 – was introduced by Governor Malloy, allowing students to refinance their loans at substantially lower rates and delivering lower monthly payments. 5:55pm--#Westport CT--Another nice save by the Westport Marine Unit. An elderly couple walked out at low tide and got stuck as the tide came in. They held on to the sea grass until the marine unit was able to maneuver to them and pull them aboard. Special thanks to our sources and to Nima for making these reports possible. 5:22pm--#Bridgeport CT-- A woman was in the 300 block of Grand Street and says she dropped $400 on the ground and a black male grabbed the money and fled in a white minivan towards Main Street. A short time later the same woman was involved in a hit and run on Park Avenue near Maplewood and fled towards Seaside Park. She was in a stolen white Lexus from the double digits on Grand Street. On 09/05/2015 at approximately 1120 hrs the Westport Police Marine Division received a VHF distress call regarding a capsized vessel with three (3) people in the waters east of Cockenoe Island. Marine Officer Brendan Fearon and Detective Serenity Dobson responded to the area in Marine Unit 2 and located three adult males floating in the water separated from their vessel. All three men were pulled from the water onto the police boat and found to be in good health. All were wearing life jackets at the time their boat tipped over. Their boat, an 18’ canoe, was recovered and towed to Compo Marina. The three men had been fishing and capsized in the choppy waters. They reported they were in the water for 15 minutes before a…
