Man Who Stated He Was High on PCP Found With Crack Cocaine

#Bridgeport, CT – Dec. 9, 2013 – A city man faces narcotics charges after being questioned by policeSunday.

Officers Jonathan Duharte and Phillip Norris observed the suspect in the area of Washington Terrace and Washington Avenue, an area know for narcotics sales and prostitution. The suspect, later identified as Eugene Brown, 29, of Bridgeport, appeared to be disoriented and continued to reach into his coat pocket while looking from side to side. That behavior, in addition to the fact that Brown told police that he was under the influence of PCP, prompted further investigation.

Police summoned an ambulance to check out Brown but, as medics attempted to treat him, he refused to remove his left arm from his jacket sleeve.

In his left hand, police recovered crack cocaine. He was charged with possession of narcotics and possession with intent to sell. Bond was set at $2,500.

Motor Vehicle Stop Nets Cocaine, Two Arrests

#Bridgeport, CT – Dec. 9, 2013 – A motor-vehicle stop led to two arrests and the seizure of cocaine.  On Saturday, Officers Anthony Caiazzo and Keith Hanson pulled over a vehicle in the area of Boston Avenue and Sheridan Street. The driver of the vehicle couldn’t provide a valid insurance card or valid registration but did provide a valid Connecticut pistol permit. He told police he was in possession of a weapon.

The items seized from both suspects later tested positive for cocaine.

Lopez was charged with possession of narcotics and bond was set at $1,500.  Oquendo was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell and bond was set at $2,500.

Monroe Fire

Monday–5:27pm–#Monroe Ct–One day after a fire killed a Monroe man in his Osborn Lane home, another Monroe family has lost their home to fire. But this time everyone made it out safely.

The fire erupted shortly before 5pm Monday at 15 High Meadow Rd. The owner reported seeing smoke in the basement and when firefighters arrived at the ranch-style home, they encountered heavy smoke and fire.
Firefighters were pulled out of the building to fight the fire defensively once part of the dining room floor collapsed into the basement. A volunteer firefighter narrowly escaped serious injuries by pulling himself out of the hole and exiting through a nearby sliding glass door. Another firefighter suffered a hand injury during the fire.
It took around 40 volunteer firefighters from the Monroe, Stepney, Stevenson, and White Hills (Shelton) departments nearly 40 minutes to put out the flames, but another two hours to completely extinguish all pockets of fire in the basement. Eventually a backhoe was brought in so that firefighters could gain better access to all areas of the basement.
Five engines, a ladder truck, and rescue truck were on scene under the command of Monroe Fire Chief William Davin.
The house was gutted and appears to be a complete loss. It is believed the occupants will be staying with family or friends. The cause of the High Meadow fire is under investigation at this time by the Monroe Fire Marshal’s Office.
Sunday’s fire on Osborn Lane was determined to be caused by an unattended grease fire on the stove top.
