Bridgeport Celebrates Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. The day has since become a time to reflect on the end of slavery in the United States while also celebrating Black history, achievement, family, and community pride. In Bridgeport, the holiday brought people together to honor that history while enjoying music, food, vendors, fellowship, and family-friendly activities. For many, Juneteenth is both a celebration and a reminder of the long road toward equality, justice, and opportunity. On the rocks!

5:21pm--#Bridgeport CT--Firefighters and police responding to Seaside Park for a man in the water off the rocks on near the lighthouse.  No mention if he is in distress.  UPDATE-- AMR have walked out on the rocks to him.  UPDATE--The man "blew out his knee" according to reports and first responders are trying to figure out how to get him ashore.  UPDATE--Firefighters have him on the boat and on the way to pier 5.
