On May 24, 2016, the Fairfield Police Department conducted a promotional examination for two of its officers. Sergeant Edward Greene was promoted to Lieutenant and Officer Michael Clark were promoted to Detective.

Lieutenant Greene was hired in 1994 and served as a patrol officer for five years during which he trained new employees as a Field Training Officer and was selected to be a member of the Emergency Services Unit. He was promoted to Detective in 1999 and In 2002 he was promoted to Sergeant. During his tenure as a Sergeant he has served as a supervisor in the Detective Division, Patrol Division, and Support Services Division. He has served as the elected President of the Fairfield County Detective Conference and has headed up the department’s Field Training program. He is a supervisor for the Emergency Services Unit, and an active shooter response instructor and firearms instructor.

Lieutenant Greene’s contributions to law enforcement include having been formally recognized during his career by our department, the Town of Fairfield, the Chief State’s Attorney’s Office, the DEA, the FBI, The CT Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Lieutenant Greene served four years with the United States Marine Corps and is a veteran of the Persian Gulf War. He is a graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command and American Military University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Management.

Detective Clark is a Graduate of University of Connecticut with a Bachelors in Political Science. He has received 10 medals including exceptional service, special recognition, Chief’s recognition and unit citations. He has received 16 supervisor commendations, 5 letters from the Chief, eleven letters from Captain and 8 letters commendation letters from civilians to the Chief.

Detective Clark is a founding member of the Crisis Intervention Team having created the Crisis Intervention Brochures and Crisis Response Manual. As part of the School Safety Unit Michael Clark co-created the SHAPE Our Youth Program which was implemented in all Fairfield Elementary Schools replacing the DARE program and assisted in the creation of a district wide lockdown manual for the Fairfield Public School System. He is also a member of the Hostage Negotiation Team.

Both candidates worked hard with many hours of study and preparation to successfully complete the competitive testing process for these ranks.
