9:25am–#Fairfield–Firefighters were called to the Circle Diner on the Post Road with the report of smoke in the dining room.  When they arrived they found no smoke in the evacuated building but did smell the odor of wood burning in the dining area, the source unknown.  After a thorough investigation firefighters found that a discarded cigarette in the mulch area outside began smoldering the mulch. The smoke  entered the attic area of the restaurant and then into the dining area.    At 11:01am the fire department recalled the alarm of fire.   I called the diner and they told me that after a quick clean up they should be open for the lunch crowd.
