Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo  marked its 90th birthday with its wildest party ever on May 19, 2012.  WICC’s Jim Buchanan was host and emcee along with a visit from Senator Richard Blumenthal and special proclamation from the U.S. Senate.  Zoo director Gregg Danchell gave us an interesting brief history on how the zoo came into existence.  Bakeries from across the state competed in many categories of the best cake for the birthday celebration.  The weather cooperated and made for a fantastic day for the celebration.  The fun continues with $5 entry fee to Bridgeport residences on Sunday.  Beardsley Zoo Connecticut’s only zoo in the state.
