(Westport, Connecticut) Friday evening at approximately 5:43 P.M. the Westport Police, EMS and Fire Department responded to a report that an operator driving a scooter had collided with a motor vehicle in the area of Post Road East at Imperial Avenue. Arriving emergency units located the victim lying in the street and began medical treatment.  The victim was transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS.

A preliminary investigation into the crash found that the scooter operator was driving eastbound on Post Road East. The scooter operator allegedly failed to obey the red traffic control signal and collided with a 2007 Volvo turning left from a westbound direction of travel on Post Road East and was turning left onto Imperial Avenue.  The operator of the Volvo was not injured in the accident and was present at the scene.  The scooter operator has sustained serious physical injuries; the extent is still being determined.

The accident remains under investigation by the Westport Police Department Accident Investigation Unit and Patrol Division.
