Around 10:45pm an officer on routine patrol noticed smoke coming from a boarding house on State Street at the corner of  Norman Street.  Police went inside to alert those in the house to evacuate, one officer was overcome with smoke inhalation.   At first it was undermined how many police officers were in the building so an emergency roll call was called; All were quickly present and accounted for.    Firefighters quickly came to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire located on the first floor in the back of the building.   There were no other injuries reported, it was uncertain if the occupants would be able to return to their rooms.  At midnight police radio traffic indicated it was now a crime scene.  We will of course update you if we get more information.
