#Bridgeport, CT – Oct. 15, 2013-– Police responding to a noise complaint arrested a man with a gun Saturday. Officers Mathew Szymczak and Michael Davila arrived at the location at Orchard and Pearl streets and encountered five people sitting on the steps. As police approached, one of the males stood up and faced the house. When he did, a gun fell onto the concrete steps. The suspect, later identified as William Kelly Jr. 26, of Kingsbury Road, then attempted to get into the house and, unsuccessful, fled on foot.
Szymczak gave chase and Davila detained the other four individuals and seized the gun. Szymczak radioed the suspect’s location as other officers converged. After Kelly scaled a high fence, Szymczak heard the sound of a Taser deployment.
Szymczak located Officer Trevor Niestemski and the suspect, whom he handcuffed and arrested. Kelly faces charges of carrying a pistol without a permit, theft of a firearm, and interfering with police. His bond was set at $25,000.
