#Bridgeport, Conn. (September 23, 2015) – Yesterday afternoon the Bridgeport Police Department arrested a Bridgeport man for Josue Chavarriaillegal possession of a firearm after a routine traffic stop.

 

On September 22, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. police officers observed a grey Subaru station wagon on Fairfield Ave. with a broken brake light. Police officers ran the license plate and found that the plate was registered to a Honda Civic, not the Subaru. Police officers pulled the Subaru over on Laurel Ave. near the intersection with Norman St.

 

The driver, Josue Chavarria (08/26/90), was unable to provide valid registration or insurance papers for the vehicle.  Police officers had Chavarria step out of the vehicle and detained him in the back of the police vehicle.  Police officers searched the vehicle and discovered a black and green Adidas backpack on the floor of the right front passenger seat.  The backpack contained a number of items including a loaded black pistol and a balled up napkin with additional rounds.  Chavarria was charged criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without permit, and weapons in a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $150,000 for a court date of 09/23/15.  Chavarria was also charged with defective brake lights, misuse of plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and no insurance. Bond was set at $1,500 for a court date of 10/06/15.
