#Westport Connecticut–On Monday, March 28, 2016 the Westport Police Department welcomed one new officer to the organization and promoted another to the rank of Detective, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Detective William Harsche. The ceremony took place in the Westport Police Department classroom, where First Selectman Jim Marpe administered the oath of office.

Officer Sharon Russo was promoted to the rank of Detective. Detective Russo is an 8-year veteran of the police force, joining the department in March 2008 where she has been assigned to the patrol division. Detective Russo attended Marymount Manhattan College and has earned the Westport Police Investigator’s Award. Detective Russo finished first in the promotional testing process.

Officer Michael Tomanelli, age 21 and a native of Marlboro, NY was sworn in as a Police Officer. He is a graduate of Sacred Heart University and is currently completing his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice, also at Sacred Heart University. Officer Tomanelli will begin his recruit training at the Connecticut Police Academy on April 1, 2016.

His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County.
