#Stratford Connecticut:  The town has had a recent increase in thefts into UNLOCKED cars. We are also experiencing thefts of tires and rims from HONDA make automobiles. These incidents have primarily occurred during the late evening and overnight hours. In an effort to assist Stratford residents the Stratford Police Department is encouraging all residents and visitors to Stratford to follow some basic safety tips to help avoid from falling victim to these types of crime.

Start by always locking the doors of your car and activate your car alarms.  Secondly, never leave valuables visible in a vehicle. This is especially true for GPS navigation devices, laptop computers and pocketbooks. If a valuable must be left inside a vehicle they should be secured in the trunk where they cannot be seen. Park in well-lit areas.

If you see someone trying to break into a vehicle call the Police and provide the dispatcher with the best possible description of the person(s). Stay on the line so the dispatcher can provide officers with timely updates and information. If the person(s) leave prior to police arrival inform the dispatcher which direction they left. Also try and get a description of any suspect vehicles and license plates if Do not confront the suspect(s) yourself as this might place you at risk.

Information provided by you is the best way to help in stopping or apprehending someone committing these crimes.
