Stratford News: Murder Investigation

On 08-13- 2017 shortly after midnight a shooting occurred on the street in front of 1854 North Avenue. The shooting followed what appeared to be a verbal argument. One 27 year old female victim was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital. A 24 year old male victim is listed as critical as the result of a gun shot wound. The incident is still under investigation and police are trying to identify the shooter(s). The shooting is an isolated incident and there is nor further danger at the scene. North Avenue was closed for several hours as a result of the shooting and subsequent investigation. 4:18pm--Firefighters were called to the old Stratfield Market at 1280 Stratfield Road for a fire in the back of the building. Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola said when they arrived they found smoke coming from the second-floor windows. What they found was a fire in the trash compactor that extended into the structure. Firefighters quickly had the fire contained and were putting out hot spots when I arrived. EMS from AMR provided a rehab for the firefighters.  The chief said he did not suspect the fire to be suspicious since recently being purchased by a new owner.  The fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate.  Firefighters from Westport and Bridgeport provided mutual aid covering the empty Fairfield fire…

Norwalk News: OD Arrest

On July 22, 2017, Norwalk Police responded to a drug overdose at the Garden Park Motel at 351 Westport Avenue. A male victim was transported to the Norwalk Hospital due to the overdose. Norwalk Detectives began investigating this incident and quickly determined that Derrick Wiggins was a person of interest. Detectives worked with the Special Services Division, who subsequently arrested Wiggins on narcotics charges July 24, 2017. Based on Detective Dan Serio’s investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Derrick Wiggins charging him for his involvement with the overdose. Westport News: Drug Arrest

Westport CT--  On 07/30/2017 at approximately 5:00pm, Officer Lames Loomer observed a female sitting in the passenger side of a black Nissan Altima in Saugatuck train station Lot 1. There appeared to be vomit on the pavement next to where the female was sitting, so the Officer approached the vehicle to check on her welfare. As Officer Loomer approached, the female got extremely nervous and was evasive answering simple questions. The female, now identified as Diana Balkun, ultimately admitted to having needles and heroin in the vehicle. Officer Loomer then deployed his Service Dog (PSD Koda) to conduct a search of the vehicle. PSD Koda indicated on the vehicle in the area of the trunk compartment for the odor of narcotics.…
