The Bridgeport Police Department arrested two men from the city for a home invasion after they broke into a house on Kent Avenue on the East Side early Sunday morning. The persons who live there were inside when the suspects forced their way in.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, a 911 caller reported he heard an intruder. Numerous patrol cars responded.
Officers immediately saw a person wearing a ski mask walking out of the front door. That person surrendered without incident. After initially giving a false name, he was identified as Michael Lozada, 21, of Bridgeport.
Officers simultaneously entered a damaged rear door while hearing sounds of items breaking. They encountered another person wearing a ski mask who was smashing a kitchen window in an attempt to escape. He was identified as Syncaire Williams, 20, of Bridgeport. Williams had the 911 caller’s wallet on him.
The 911 caller told police that one, or both, of the suspects tried to break his bedroom door, while he was using it as a barricade by pushing on it from inside.
A car used by the suspects was found in the rear of the driveway of the house. It was unoccupied with the engine running and had a stolen license plate attached to it. It was towed from the scene.
A person who claimed to own the car later called police and said it had been stolen in Derby.
“We are grateful the persons in the house were not injured and are now safe,” said Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter. “The response of our officers and the quick decisions and actions by our supervisors and officers in real time led to these dangerous and outstanding arrests.”
