Police UPDATE:

On October 14, 2020 at approximately 4:55 pm Bridgeport Patrol Officers, Bridgeport Firefighters and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to the scene of a fatal crash at the intersection of Park Avenue and Thorme Street. This was a two car motor vehicle crash involving a dark blue 2008 Acura TI bearing CT registration AU72393 operated by Rolando Solano DOB 09/12/2001 of Bridgeport CT and a white 2015 Lexus ES 350 bearing CT registration AERO-5 operated by Luis Kugell DOB 05/09/1939 of Prospect CT. The white Lexus was traveling southbound on Park Avenue and had stopped for the red light at Park Avenue and Thorme Street. After the light had changed the white Lexus proceeded to turn left from the left lane and was making a left turn onto Thorme Street. As white Lexus was crossing the right lane of the northbound side Park Avenue the blue Acura which was traveling at a high rate of speed in the right lane of the northbound side of Park Avenue colliding with the Lexus hitting it by the front passenger door. The impact caused significant intrusion into the Lexus where the front passenger Sydel Kugell DOB 04/07/1942 of Prospect CT was sitting. The vehicles came to rest on the northeast corner of Park Avenue and Thorme Street. The blue Acura had 2 passengers, the right front passenger was identified as Christopher Terry DOB 04/10/2002 of Bridgeport and the rear passenger is a juvenile. The Juvenile fled the scene, however after fleeing the scene he returned and requested medical treatment.

All occupants in both cars were transported to St Vincent’s Hospital. All occupants of the Acura sustained minor non-life threatening injuries and were being treated at St Vincent’s hospital. The operator of the Lexus sustained minor non-life threatening injuries and was being treated for his injuries, the passenger Sydel Kugell sustained significant serious injuries and succumbed to her injuries at St Vincent’s Hospital.

The Bridgeport Police Crash Investigation Unit, Sergeant Meszaros, Officer Ruffin, Officer Perry, Officer Rivera, and Officer Dolyak responded to the scene to conduct a further investigation and are being assisted by the Southern Fairfield County Traffic Unit (Fairfield PD). 2020-10-14@3:08pm–#Bridgeport CT– Multiple people were seriously injured in a crash at Park Avenue and Thorme Street. The roadway was closed and detoured. I counted at least three people seriously injured in the crash. Firefighters had to extricate people from both cars.
