DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Fairfield News: Pedestrian Hit

UPDATE: Sad to report that the woman, Patricia Barger, 86 died of her injuries. Sharon Ranney was the driver of the striking vehicle. No charges have been filed at this time. 8:02pm--#Fairfield Connecticut-- Witnesses said an older woman darted in the busy Black Rock Turnpike near Katona Drive and was struck by a black Lexus. First responders said the woman was unconciouss and EMS worked to stabilize her before transporting her to St. Vincent's Hospital. There is no crosswalk at that intersection. The driver of the Lexus was visibly upset and was cooperating with police.

Westport News: Fraudulent Returns

#Westport News: On June 7, 2016 Officers responded to Super Stop & Shop, 1790 Post Road East, on a report of employee fraud. Store Security alleged that one of their Customer Service Associates, Quatiesha Johnson, was processing fraudulent returns. According to Security, Johnson would open a register transaction as if a customer was making a return when in fact no customer was present. She would than process the fraudulent return and keep the money. There were over fifty fraudulent transactions which occurred over a period of several months. The total amount stolen was $1,132.70. The store captured all of Johnson’s alleged illegal activity on its surveillance system. The investigator applied for an arrest warrant which was served on September 22, 2016. Preparedness and Response Field Day

#Westport Connecticut-- Today the Region 1 Emergency Planning Team conducted their Preparedness and Response Field Day at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.  Since 2007 the fourteen (14) municipalities, two (2) regional planning organizations, 20+ Emergency Support Functions, and DEMHS Regional Office that make up Region 1, have worked collaboratively to increase individual and collective capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazards emergencies. This has included the acquisition of a significant amount of equipment, development of plans, delivery of multi-disciplined training, and participation in Regional-based exercises.
