DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.

Bridgeport Fire

8:30 am--#Bridgeport CT--Two men escaped from this burning home at 478 Woodrow Avenue when smoke detectors did their job and alerted the men to the fire.  It is thought to have started in the attached garage.  It took firefighters led by Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Martin about a half hour to bring the fire under control.  Special thanks to Fernando Torres for providing the photo.

Shooting in Bridgeport

A man was shot in the leg in a shooting outside the Ralphola Taylor Community Center at 790 Central Avenue. Initial radio reports said there was possibly a woman victim but no woman has shown up at any of the local hospitals. One man was seen being treated by EMS in the ambulance. Police were in the area and heard multiple shots from two different weapons. As police continue to investigate I'm certain info will continue to change. Man Doesn’t Remember Possible Robbery

#Bridgeport, CT – Nov. 5, 2013-– Police responded to a report of a man with amnesia Monday. Officer Clinton Jarvis was dispatched to a Beechmont Avenue address and spoke to the 47-year-old man. Jarvis noticed the man had a bruise around his right eye and was bleeding from his nose and mouth. The man stated that he remembered attending a party and driving home but didn’t remember anything after that. He stated that he woke up in his apartment with injuries and a missing wallet. He acknowledged to police that he drank five or six beers before calling police.

Monroe home burns twice overnight

#Monroe CT--A house on Harmony Lane in the Stepney section of town sustained heavy damage after a fire broke out around 2:15am on Tuesday. When Stepney firefighters arrived at the 2,700 sq ft colonial at 58 Harmony Lane, the attached garage was fully engulfed in fire. Vounteer firefighters from Stepney, Monroe, Stevenson, and Long Hill first fought the blaze from the outside, then advanced into the house and stopped the fire before the home was destroyed. The house sustained heavy damage from the fire and smoke. A total of 5 engines, a ladder, and a rescue truck responded. Fairfield Fire responds to 500 pound propane tank leak

#FAIRFIELD, CT, November 5, 2013: On Tuesday morning at 9:21am the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a worker on the scene reporting a propane leak at 276 Pemburn Street. Fairfield Fire Engines 1, 2, 3, and 4, Ladder 2, Cars 3 and 5 responded, with Car 3 first to arrive on scene to report that an aboveground valve had been damaged and was leaking propane from a recently filled 500 gallon inground tank. Fire personnel established protective hoselines and were able to diminish the leak with patch materials while awaiting the arrival of the Fairfield Fire Department Hazardous Materials Trailer.
