GOV. MALLOY APPOINTS FAIRFIELD FIRST SELECTMAN KEN FLATTO AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF DIVISION OF SPECIAL REVENUE–Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has appointed Fairfield First Selectman Kenneth Flatto as Executive Director of the Division of Special Revenue. The Division of Special Revenue is responsible for managing various special revenues and for regulating legalized gaming in the State of Connecticut, including the Lottery and Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. Flatto is currently the First Selectman of Fairfield, a position to which he has been elected five times. As First Selectman, Flatto is responsible for more than 500 employees and a budget of $260 million. Prior to serving as Fairfield’s First Selectman, Flatto served as the Chief Financial Officer for Orangetown, NY, and Comptroller and Deputy Commissioner for the City of Yonkers, NY.

3-22@1:17am–Bridgeport–State Police chase nets one in custody at the corner of Columbia and Johnson Street. Unknown what the driver was wanted for.


A quick moving blaze at 1315 East Main Street shortly after 1pm today continue to keep Bridgeport Fire Departments and Red Cross busy after 2 major fires over the weekend. There were no reported injuries.

12:37am–Bridgeport–Police report two black males, one in dreadlocks taking off their clothes in the middle of the street at Central and Barnum Ave.

3/20@7:19pm–Bridgeport/Fairfield Police respond to call of an attempted break-in at 47 Pierce St, Fairfield. It is right on the town line so both departments respond. Police take two in custody.

1:09pm–Bridgeport–High voltage fire in the basement of 1087 Broad Street. FD has it under control waiting for UI.

11:10am–Bridgeport–Fire departments raced to Marty’s Brick Oven Pizza at 2916 Fairfield Avenue for a report of a fire. Fire department reports heavy smoke upon arrival. Initial reports indicated there was a person trapped on the third floor. A sweep of the house found no one in the building. Fire department continue to work the scene. Fire department running additional lines to the back of the building. 11:52–UPDATE–Fire Marshall on the scene to begin investigation. 12:02pm–UPDATE–Fire department reports that the fire did extend into the restaurant and they are trying to gain access into the basement.12:07pm–Fire Department calling all fire personnel to evacuate the building fire is out of control.

6:37am–Bridgeport–Multi-family house on 348 Lenox Avenue. Fire swept through this 2 1/2 story wood structure with flames shooting into the morning sky. The fire started on the first floor and within minutes spread to the second floor. The fire department remained on scene until shortly after 11am. The house was a complete loss with the the roof collapsing partially onto a parked car parked on the street. Fire department declares it a complete loss. One firefighter broke a finger battling this blaze, no other injuries reported. Garth Trotto contributed to this story.

2:01am–Bridgeport–Fight of the night at the club Pleasant Moments at Knowlton Street. 2:07am UPDATE–Police are requesting ambulance to William and Harriet Street for injured victim, which is around the corner from the club.

12:54–Bridgeport–Police responded to a fight inside Club Azul on Main Street. Police quickly requested additional units when one of the parties had a gun. 1:03am–Bridgeport–Police investigating a break in at LA Roma Deli at 652 Brooklawn Avenue. Police have a great description and video of the suspect.

11:43–Fairfield–Gun shots reported in Greenfield Hill section of town. About 11pm gunshots on Hillside Road, police found nothing upon arrival. Additional call for multiple gun shots on Merwin’s Lane and just now on Minehill Road (11:42pm). Police are investigating.

The Fairfield Board of Selectmen voted 2-0, with one abstention, Wednesday to recommend that the state Department of Transportation name the train station on lower Black Rock Turnpike be named Fairfield Metro.
