Bridgeport News: Firearm Recovery

#Bridgeport CT-- On August 19, 2021 at approximately 1:07 pm the Bridgeport Police Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) responded to the intersection of Arctic Street and Pembroke Street on a report of a person in that area with a firearm.  Upon officers arrival the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Kevin Despres of Middletown Connecticut, observed the police vehicles and immediately began to run away from them unsolicited. Officers engaged the suspect in foot pursuit and observed Despres grabbing at his waist band. Despres then pulled a handgun from his waistband.  As Despres was running away, he tripped and fell to the ground allowing the police officers to catch up to him and take him into custody without further incident.  A loaded .22 caliber pistol was recovered. Bridgeport News: Police Involved Shooting

UPDATE: On June 15, 2021 at approximately 10:12pm, a Bridgeport police officer assigned to the federal Safe Streetstask force was involved in a shooting in the area of Main St. and Catherine St. in the city of Bridgeport. The victim was transported to the hospital, treated for non life-threatening injuries, and released. Connecticut State Police personnel were not involved in this incident. The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Squad has assumed this investigation at the request of the Bridgeport State’s Attorney’s Office. The Bridgeport State’s Attorney requested that the Stamford State’s Attorney oversee the investigation. Dog Starts Fire In Bridgeport

2021-05-13@9:44pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Deputy Chief Buck said when they arrived on Pixlee Place, they were met with heavy fire on the third floor. Once they began "opening up" the fire became too intense and they had to sound the evaluation tones to get all the firefighters out of the building. They then got the fire under control and then worked to put out the hot spots. Third floor tenant Evan Werner said his friend that was dog sitting said their dog Ruby knocked over a candle onto a bed which started the fire. ​Everyone made it out safely. Bridgeport News: 2 Injured In Collapse

2021-04-11@10:25pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Two college students were injured when the front porch stoop collapsed plunging them down 12 feet in the 600 block of Queen Street. The assistant fire chief said it was something he's never seen before. A cement slap was placed over the the foundation and over the years the cement eroded causing the collapse. The students were able to get themselves out of the hole prior to the firefighters arrival.
