Mayor Ganim UPDATE: City officials removed the Christopher Columbus statue at Seaside Park and placed it in storage out of an abundance of caution for the preservation of the historic artifact, the need to respond to modern-day sensitivities, as well as public safety at large. Community leaders of all cultures and ethnicities are discussing ways to continue to honor and recognize each other’s heritage within the city of Bridgeport in a way that is peaceful, educational and supportive to all. Bridgeport Police Investigate A Serious Crash
#Bridgeport CT-- On July 5, 2020 at approximately 7:16 pm Bridgeport Patrol Officers and Bridgeport Firefighters responded to the scene of a serious crash at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Center Street Extension. A 34-year-old Bridgeport man was traveling southbound on Madison Avenue operating a white 2007 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle. As the motorcycle approached the intersection of Madison Avenue and Center Street Extension a blue 2005 Toyota RAV4, operated by a 51-year-old Bridgeport man, was traveling eastbound on Center Street Extension. The operator of the RAV4 attempted to turn left onto Madison Avenue when he crossed the motorcyclist path of travel. POLICE UPDATE: At 9:57 PM--Bridgeport Emergency Call Center received a call for police response to person down on the ground. The victim was shot somewhere on Newfield Avenue near the park. He attempted to drive to the hospital but ended up crashing his three-wheel motorcycle into the back of an SUV. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital. Detectives were notified and responded. The victim in stable condition at the time of this report. Bridgeport News: Two Shot Overnight
2020-07-05@4:00AMish-- #Bridgeport CT-- Bridgeport Police are saying the received calls from both Bridgeport Hospital and Bridgeport Hospital of gunshot victims. Police had a shot spotter activation at Arctic Street with casing located. Bridgeport Hospital had a person arrive with gunshots to the ankle and wrist while St. Vincent's had two gunshots to the lower back saying this happened Fremont Street. Bridgeport News: Fire At PT Barnum Housing
2020-07-04@ 8:45PMish--Bridgeport CT— #ctfire--Multiple witnesses told me that it was fireworks that landed on the roof of building 8 (but not confirmed) at PT Barnum Housing at 451 Bird Street that started the fire on the roof. When firefighters arrived they reported fire from the roof. When I arrived firefighters were making entry to ensure everyone was out of the building and they were spraying the flare-ups when they happened. The fire had made its way into the attic and burst into high flames when firefighters vented the roof (this is normal as it feeds oxygen to the fire).
