Fairfield, CT – On March 2, 2026, at approximately 9:00 PM, Fairfield Police responded to News Express, located at 200 Tunxis Hill Road, for a report of an armed robbery in progress. During the incident, a masked individual entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money from the store employee. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the area on foot. No injuries were reported during the incident and the Fairfield Detective Bureau responded immediately to process the scene. Smith was charged with Larceny in the First Degree, issued a court set $200,000 surety bond and appeared in Bridgeport Superior Court last month. The charge stems from a fraud investigation that began on 3/11/2024 after a Fairfield resident reported being contacted about what was described as a loan affiliated with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). In the first case, Le Chen, age 40, of Flushing, New York, was arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the First Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Telephone Fraud in the First Degree. Chen was held on a $175,000 bond and appeared at Bridgeport Superior Court on 3/3/2026. A burnt-out coffee pot in a utility closet on the 4th floor at Seton Hall triggered a fire alarm at Sacred Heart University, located at 5151 Park Avenue in Fairfield. Firefighters responded and determined the alarm was caused by the overheated coffee pot. False alarms at the university are often triggered by items such as curling irons or burnt popcorn.
