Look Who’s DoingItLocal!

It’s Jay Piccirillo aka Ice Man from Micalizzi’s Italian Ices at 712 Madison Avenue in Bridgeport!   Micalizzi’s is one of Bridgeport’s oldest existing business and landmark.    They started in 1931 with the Piccirillo family taking over in 1977.  Probably most famous for their awesome lemon Italian Ice or their piña colada ices, I sampled their canoli ice, needless to say it was awesome.  Jay will be advertising throughout the summer the many flavors they have to choose from.  What I did not know was they also have soft and hard ice cream and sundaes too!  I’m pictured here with Jay with my all time favorite soft serve chocolate ice cream with chocolate sprinkles.    Ooooh it was sooooo good!

Bridgeport/Fairfield Police Pursuit

6:55pm–#Bridgeport CT–#Fairfield CT–A complicated and delayed call mainly because I was on my way to pick up my fix from Arthur’s Famous Pizza, 430 Park Avenue and that I had to play back audio from both towns.  An officer on patrol spotted a stolen vehicle, a tan Chevy Malibu with CT plates 7AHLE8 on Washington and Pequonnick Streets and gave chase.  Bridgeport Police spokesman William Kaempffer confirmed the car was stolen with key back in February.  Chatter from all towns including state police radios said it was taken at gunpoint in a carjacking.  The pursuit continued to Laurel and Brooklawn Avenue.  The pursuit continued into Fairfield to Park Avenue where the driver almost hit a Bridgeport Police Officer at Wilson Street and Park Avenue.   The pursuit continued as deep into Fairfield at Black Rock Turnpike at Tunxis Hill.  The pursuit headed back to Bridgeport via Stratford Avenue back up Wilson Street and continued to Trumbull Road past Trumbull Gardens and into Trumbull where the pursuit was terminated.

 

Police are looking for the operator described as a white male with a scraggly beard with black hair wearing a black hat, and a black hoodie.   Again police are looking for a tan Chevy Malibu with CT plates 7AHLE8 with tinted windows except the back windows.  If you see the driver or the car call 911 immediately.  The driver is presumed armed and dangerous.

I felt like I was sent back in time when I visited the Famous Fifties Diner at 472 Huntington Turnpike in Bridgeport.  I met with Kathryn Sanchez who opened the diner in April with her husband.  The first thing you notice is the Coca Cola red and white color theme and all the 50’s memorabilia on the walls.  I wanted to point out that there was something wrong with the flat screen above the counter seating but then it dawned on me they intentionally wanted it to display in black and white!

The have all the good foods you expect at a diner including Mexican food; Kathryn told me her husband is from Mexico so I can expect some authentic dishes!  Since I was there for fifties Americana I had to try a good old fashioned  bacon double cheeseburger and fries.   They were both excellent and the portion was so large even I could not finish either the burger or fries.  The also offer authentic fifties malteds and egg cream sodas but I was way too full to try them.

Most people usually go to diners because of the convenience of comfort food but for me this would be a destination to seek out.  The decor, 50’s music playing I was expecting the Fonz or Marty McFly to walk in at any moment.  Oh, and the place was so clean!  I highly recommend them!

Me sentí como me mandaron atrás en el tiempo cuando visité el famoso Fifties Diner en 472 Huntington Turnpike en Bridgeport. Me reuní con Kathryn Sánchez quien abrió el restaurante en abril con su marido. El primero que se nota es el tema rojo y blanco de color Coca Cola y todas las del 50 objetos de interés en las paredes. Yo quería señalar que había algo mal con la pantalla plana por encima de la barra para sentarse, pero luego me di cuenta de que intencionalmente querían que se muestre en blanco y negro!

La tienen todos los buenos alimentos que se pueden esperar en un restaurante incluyendo comida mexicana; Kathryn me dijo que su marido es de México, así que puede esperar algunos platos auténticos! Como yo estaba allí por cincuenta Americana que tenía que probar un buen tocino de moda doble hamburguesa con queso y patatas fritas de edad. Ambos eran excelentes y la porción era tan grande, incluso yo no podía terminar bien la hamburguesa o patatas fritas. También ofrecen fifties auténticos malteds y refrescos de crema de huevo, pero yo estaba demasiado lleno de probarlas.

La mayoría de la gente suele ir a los comensales debido a la comodidad de la comida de comodidad, pero para mí esto sería un destino para buscar. La decoración, la reproducción de música de los años 50 me esperaba lo Fonz o Marty McFly a caminar en cualquier momento. Ah, y el lugar era tan limpio! Lo recomiendo!

Eu senti como se foi enviado de volta no tempo, quando visitei a famosa Fifties Diner a 472 Huntington Turnpike em Bridgeport. Eu me encontrei com Kathryn Sanchez, que abriu o restaurante em abril com o marido. A primeira coisa que você nota é o tema de cores vermelho e branco da Coca-Cola e todas as recordações da década de 50 nas paredes. Eu queria salientar que havia algo errado com a tela plana acima do balcão de estar, mas depois me dei conta de que eles intencionalmente queria exibir em preto e branco!

O que todos os bons alimentos que você espera em uma lanchonete incluindo comida mexicana; Kathryn me disse que seu marido é do México para que eu possa esperar alguns pratos autênticos! Desde que eu estava lá para fifties Americana eu tinha que tentar um bom toucinho moda duplo cheeseburger e batatas fritas de idade. Eles foram excelentes ea porção era tão grande, mesmo eu não poderia terminar ou o hambúrguer ou batatas fritas. O também oferecem fifties autênticos malteds e ovo creme refrigerantes, mas eu estava muito cheio para julgá-los.

A maioria das pessoas geralmente vão para os clientes por causa da conveniência de alimentos de conforto, mas para mim isso seria um destino a procurar. A decoração, 50 de música tocando Eu estava esperando o Fonz ou Marty McFly para entrar a qualquer momento. Oh, eo lugar era tão limpo! Eu recomendo-los!

Fairfield’s Restaurant Week: Bella Sera

Fairfield Restaurant Week Featuring Coromandel

Ribbon Cutting At Stan’s Jamaican Kitchen

Today was Stan’s Jamaican Kitchen’s official ribbon  cutting.  Located at 16 Tunxis Hill Road (next to DeSantie Tire) near the Bridgeport town line on North Avenue.  Stan’s Jamaican Kitchen is Fairfield’s only Jamaican restaurant.  I’m yet to try it with my family but a couple of my Facebook friends have already said they have the best oxtail anywhere.  Karen Gordon is the owner and has named it Stan”s in honor of her father.  They are open 11am to 8pm, and take out is their main business although there is a counter for eating in.
