DoingItLocal.com Remains Independent

Our reporting is totally independent of any organized groups.  The news we gather is mostly from scanner reporting but we do receive some great tips from viewers.  I had a viewer from Westport message me on Facebook that another news source was reporting on something we did not report, YET.  Because it was a press release from the police department.  Yes, we do greatly appreciate the news from the police department...we don't catch everything.  A lot of news sources cut and paste these news reports as news, not as original news or FACT.  That's police state news reporting. Sort of like the comrades from socialist countries.  We are better than that aren't we? I know most of us just want…

Governor Will Join Group of Community Leaders at 7:30PM Tonight at a Roundtable Discussion in Milford

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he is joining a bipartisan list of leaders who have signed on to a Request for Information (RFI) to the gun industry to get a clear sense what companies are doing to improve public safety. Given the large number of firearms bought by public entities, it’s the hope of this group that market forces will help promote and encourage responsible practices within the industry. “For a generation, we’ve been hearing that it’s not guns that kill people, it’s people that kill people,” said Governor Malloy. “If that’s the case, then the gun industry has an obligation to tell us what they’re doing to keep guns out of the hands of…

Governor Signs Do Not Call Registry To Include Text Messages

#HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed into law a bill that will reduce unwanted, unsolicited commercial phone intrusions by modernizing the state’s “Do Not Call” registry to include text messages in addition to the already prohibited phone calls. “The ‘Do Not Call’ registry provides consumers with protection and privacy from unwanted telemarketing calls, and as technology evolves we must update it to ensure these consumer rights,” Governor Malloy said.  “In addition to being an annoyance, some cell phone plans charge a fee for each text message received, whether that message was wanted or not.  This new law strengthens these consumer protections by banning unsolicited commercial text messages and increasing the penalty for these…

Got Chocolate Milk? Governor’s Office Response On Ban

Andrew Doba, Director of Communications for Governor Dannel P. Malloy, today released the following statement regarding legislation approved by the Connecticut General Assembly that bans the serving of chocolate milk in public schools: “This specific bill has not yet come to the Governor’s desk and will be reviewed in detail when it arrives.  However, on the broader topic at hand, the Governor is not supportive of banning chocolate milk in public schools.  While we must be extremely mindful of the nutritional value of what’s offered to students, ensuring an appropriate array of options helps to ensure that kids receive the calcium and other nutrients they need.”

Connecticut Passes Minimum Wage Bill

Statement by the President Obama  Today, the Connecticut Legislature took an important step towards raising the state minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and giving more Connecticut workers the raise they deserve.  When I visited Connecticut earlier this month I was joined by Governor Malloy and three of his fellow New England governors, who represent just a few of the many states, cities, and counties across our country working to raise their minimum wages.  I support these efforts, and I commend Governor Malloy for his leadership.  But to truly make sure our economy rewards the hard work of every American, Congress must act.  I hope Members of Congress, governors, state legislators and business leaders across our country will follow Connecticut’s…
