On 08/28/2024 at approximately 11:39 AM, a Trooper assigned to Troop G in Bridgeport responded to I-95 Southbound in the area of Exit 17 in Westport for a disabled tractor trailer in a hazardous location in the median portion of the highway.   Prior to reaching the tractor trailer, the trooper was advised that the tractor trailer operator was observed leaving the scene on an electric scooter, crossed the three travel lanes of the highway, and was last seen driving the electric scooter southbound in the right shoulder.   Upon locating the tractor trailer operator, the Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren and the operator of the scooter complied and came to a stop in the right shoulder. His bond was set at $75,000. The arrest stems from an incident on July 14, 2024, when Westport Police responded to a report of a stolen motor vehicle. An investigation, aided by surveillance cameras, revealed that around 3:50 AM, unknown individuals arrived in a gray BMW and stole a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz from an unlocked, open garage. The Westport Police Department, Board of Education, and Parks and Recreation want to remind residents and visitors about the new guidelines enacted to enhance school security. From 7:30 AM to 4:15 PM on school days, only students, staff, and those conducting school-related business are permitted on school properties. This includes Wakeman Park at Bedford Middle School, the Community Gardens at Long Lots Elementary School, and all athletic fields located on school grounds. Visitors conducting business at Wakeman Town Farm may use the designated parking area at Wakeman Town Park. School Security Officers and School Security Guards will be monitoring these areas to ensure compliance.

Westport News: One Arrested After Collision on Merritt Parkway

(Westport, CT, August 25, 2024) – At approximately 1:50 p.m. today, the Connecticut State Police contacted the Westport Police Department regarding an accident on the Merritt Parkway near the Clinton Avenue overpass. According to the State Police, three individuals fled from one of the involved vehicles, which was later confirmed to be stolen from another jurisdiction. A coordinated response from Westport and Norwalk police, along with state troopers, resulted in a large police presence on local streets near the accident site. Trumbull Robbery Suspects Apprehended in Westport

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, shortly before 5:00pm, Westport officers were advised to be on the lookout for a black Infiniti occupied by three male suspects. This vehicle was reported to be involved in an armed robbery in Trumbull, CT during which a firearm was reported to have been displayed. The suspect vehicle was initially spotted and briefly pursued by the Trumbull Police Department. It was last seen southbound on Interstate 95 near Exit 23.
