Since 2007 the fourteen (14) municipalities, two (2) regional planning organizations, 20+ Emergency Support Functions, and DEMHS Regional Office that make up Region 1, have worked collaboratively to increase individual and collective capacity to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all-hazards emergencies. 1:34am--#Bridgeport Connecticut--Police were called to Palm Street (off Noble near Boston) for a man reporting he just shot his father in the chest with a shotgun and that he had an old style hand grenade and wasn't coming out alive. Police locked the street down and surrounded the house. They methodically got everyone out of the multi family house. The did a sweep out of the home and found nothing. 10:49pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- Just before 10pm shots rang out inside the El Paraiso Restaurant at 1024 Madison Avenue. The victim who has not been identified at this time was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital where he died from the shooting. A flip flop can be seen in the back of the restaurant where the victim was transported to the ambulance, the other flip flop was inside the restaurant. Police have just begun investigating and evaluating video from area businesses. Witnesses told me the shooting was a set up. 6:11pm--#Bridgeport Connecticut-- There was an explosion on the back deck of 92/94 Merchant Street and then fire quickly spread throughout the multi family home. A child was inside and an adult ran inside to rescue the child before the flames got out of control. Firefighters were quick on the scene and verified no one was inside the house. The flames did endanger the neighboring home but again firefighters were able to spray the home and protect it.
