Bridgeport News: Driver Arrested After Pursuit
Here is the police info on the pursuit we reported the other day as it was happening:
(Bridgeport, CT – May 20, 2014)—A 20-year-old man faces criminal and motor vehicle charges after a police pursuit.
Officer Matthew Goncalves attempted to pull over a motorist on Iranistan Avenue Monday but the driver sped off. After a short pursuit, the driver stopped and fled on foot, running through back yards and scaling fences. Police followed but lost sight of the suspect. K-9 Officer Mark Martocchio arrived and his dog initiated a track in the 2400 block of Park Avenue. The canine led Martocchio to a row of hedges and Martocchio observed the suspect hiding near a garage on Hillside Avenue. The suspect, identified as William “Poopie” Thompson, of Bridgeport, attempted to flee and was apprehended by the dog. Officers Martocchio and Michael Stanitis took him into custody.
His passenger remained with the car and was not charged.
“I don’t know why he ran,” the man told police. “He’s just being stupid.”
Thompson was charged with interfering with police, reckless endangerment and motor vehicle offenses.

8:50pm–#Bridgeport CT–The Shell Station at Main and Vincellette Street just had an armed robbery. Suspect fled in a older dark Neon with a yellow stripe on Main Street. Black male about 5’10” wearing jeans.

Dog Bite Victim Arrested For Threats, Drugs
(Bridgeport, CT – May 19, 2014) – A 31-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly threatened to shoot a man and his dog, which had bitten him, unless he was paid $300.
Officer Carla Remele went to Dover Street Friday on a report of a man being threatened with a gun.
She learned that the target of the threats had taken his dog outside when a man approached and asked if the dog was “good.” The owner said he was but when the man approached the dog snapped and cut the man’s face.
The suspect, identified as Mechech Housen, of Bridgeport, got angry and, according to the dog owner, pulled out a handgun and demanded money “or I will kill you and your dog.”
The dog owner retreated inside his home.
When police arrived, Housen emerged from his girlfriend’s house. He spoke with Officers Roberto Quintanilla and Ian Shoumaker and complained that his injury was worth $300. He declined medical treatment. He continued screaming and causing a disturbance.
Housen was arrested for threatening, breach of peace and possession of narcotics after police found him in possession of heroin.
Police searched the girlfriend’s home with consent but did not locate a firearm.
Robbers Hold Up Pizza Shop
(Bridgeport, CT – May 19, 2014) – Two males robbed a Main Street pizza restaurant Sunday night.
Officer Ferdinand Ferrao Jr. responded to the Papa John’s Pizza shop at 2354 Main St. at 11:40 p.m. on a report of a robbery.
He learned that two men entered the store and one brandished a firearm. The robbers took money from the register and from two employees before fleeing on foot. No one was injured.
Police Arrest Man With Stolen Gun, Body Armor
(Bridgeport, CT – May 19, 2014) – A city man was arrested last week after police caught him with a stolen gun and body armor.
Officers Keith Hanson and Anthony Caiazzo attempted to pull over a vehicle Thursday night but the driver refused to stop. Police followed the vehicle to Tudor Street, where the driver abruptly stopped and fled on foot.
The vehicle coasted backwards and nearly struck one of the officers.
Caiazzo detained the remaining occupants of the car. Hanson, after jumping out of the way of the suspect’s vehicle, gave chase on foot of the fleeing suspect.
Hanson caught up to the suspect on Dover Street and observed the suspect reaching into his waistband
The two struggled and the suspect, later identified as Dewayne Joyner, 29, was handcuffed with the assistance of Officer Stacey Lyons.
Police recovered a loaded .380-caliber handgun from the suspect’s sweatshirt and a bullet-proof vest inside his car.
Joyner faces charges including carrying a pistol without a permit, criminal possession of a firearm by a felon, theft of a firearm, possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of body armor and interfering with police.
