Stratford News: Meet The Author

The Stratford Library will host former Connecticut resident Paul Backalenick for a special “Meet-the-Author” program on Sunday, April 25 from 2-3 pm.   Backalenick will discuss his most recent novel in the program which is free and open to the public.  Paul Backalenick, formerly of Westport, is the author of psychological mystery and suspense novels, most recently Carrie’s Secret. The book was praised as “surprising” and “an engaging mystery” (Kirkus Reviews). In it, a teenage psychiatric patient bears a terrible secret. She feels it is too dangerous to reveal, yet withholding it may destroy her family and send the wrong man to prison for life.  Backalenick graduated from Brown University where he served as the editor of and a contributor to the school’s literary magazine. Governor Ned Lamont today announced that his administration is launching a new state program aimed at engaging with K-12 students who struggled with absenteeism and disengagement during the 2020-21 school year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative, known as the Learner Engagement and Attendance Program (LEAP), will include a partnership between the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) and the six state Regional Education Service Centers (RESCs) that will target 15 school districts throughout Connecticut. Funds will go to increasing people power who will be deployed to homes to directly engage with families and students to provide support. Bridgeport News: Child Hit By A Car

Bridgeport Police said: On April 12, 2021 at approximately 5:39 pm the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received the report of a Motor Vehicle vs Pedestrian crash near 1430 Fairfield Avenue in Bridgeport, CT. A 2011 Blue Hyundai Sonata GLS driven by Latavia Henderson of Bridgeport was traveling westbound on Fairfield Avenue when a juvenile pedestrian walked into traffic and she was unable to avoid striking the juvenile. Henderson after striking the pedestrian pulled her car over and went to render aid. The juvenile resided in the area the crash occurred and the mother was on scene. Bridgeport Fire Department and AMR responded to the scene. The juvenile was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with serious Non-Life threatening Injuries and later transported to…

#Bridgeport CT-- #Faifield CT-- Sharon Williams DOB 11/15/1979 of Fairfield Ct has been identified as the biological mother of “Prince”.  As a result of the investigation conducted by Bridgeport Police Detective Joseph Badolato, Sharon Williams was placed under arrest and charged with Risk of Injury to a Minor, Cruelty to Persons, Abandonment of a Child Under the Age of 6, Leaving a Child Under 12 Unsupervised, and Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree.

Bridgeport News: 2 Injured In Collapse

2021-04-11@10:25pm--#Bridgeport CT-- Two college students were injured when the front porch stoop collapsed plunging them down 12 feet in the 600 block of Queen Street. The assistant fire chief said it was something he's never seen before. A cement slap was placed over the the foundation and over the years the cement eroded causing the collapse. The students were able to get themselves out of the hole prior to the firefighters arrival.
