Stratford Library Sets Zoom Book Talk

The Stratford Library “Books Over Coffee” program continues with an online discussion of Christina Baker Kline’s historical drama, The Exiles, on Wednesday, November 18.  The online Zoom program, hosted by Linda LiDestri, will be held between 12-1 pm.  The book talk is free and open to the public. The Exiles is Christina Baker Kline’s excellent historical fiction novel that takes place in the early 1840s and focusses on the transport of female “convicts” from England to Tasmania. The transport of prisoners to North America and Australia is generally known, but not about the female population to Tasmania. Christina Baker Kline has established herself as a novelist who plumbs noteworthy but little-known facets of the past, and The Exiles marks her third foray into the genre. Bridgeport Schools To Switch To Remote Learning

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Superintendent Mike Testani today announced that the Bridgeport Public Schools will shift to remote learning on Monday, November 23, 2020.   The announcement comes in response to an increase in persons impacted or testing positive with the COVID-19 virus.   The decision to start remote learning on the 23rd was in consultation with the Superintendent, the city’s health director, as well as other city leaders including the BOE. Westport News: Leaf Blower Fire

On Wednesday, The Westport Fire Department Emergency Communications Center received a call for areported truck fire Thursday morning at 9:52am. The fire department responded with twoengines and the shift commander. Fire companies arrived and found the rear area of alandscaping truck, its machinery, and its contents on fire. The fire was quickly extinguished.The landscape company employees reported that a fire started on the attached leaf vacuum andspread to the leaf vacuum’s gas tank. Improvement Fund$ For Trumbull and Monroe

 State Senator Marilyn Moore (D-Trumbull) is welcoming new state funding for capitol improvement projects in Trumbull and Monroe. Governor Lamont recently approved more than $11 million in state funding through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program that will be awarded to 94 towns across the state. Monroe will be receiving $128,205 in state funding for the replacement of the public safety radio communications system. This will be matched by $1,226,795 from the town. Trumbull will be receiving $128,205 in state funding for the Phase 1 demolition, design, and site preparation for the new Trumbull Veterans and First Responder Center.
