Stratford News: Burlington Coat Factory Evacuated

3:44pm--#Stratford CT--Burlington Coat Factory at 800 Barnum Avenue Cutoff was evacuated for what was thought a natural gas evacuation.  Turns out it was batteries near the elevator/conveyor belt area over charging.  The batteries were bubbling over and releasing hydrogen sulfate into the air.  The firefighters are now in the process of ventilating the building. 11:39am--Firefighters are on scene at 55 Selden Street, the Headquarters of Yankee Gas Company for ironically a gas leak.  The firefighters have requested a representative of the gas company to the scene.   You don't have to worry about dangerous gas leaks if you heat with oil! Bridgeport News: Police Arrest Employee of Kitchen Remodeler for Embezzlement

#Bridgeport, CT – July 28, 2014 – A 24-year-old woman last week was charged with embezzling more than $50,000 from her employer. Detective Frank Podpolucha secured a warrant charging April Trowell, of Bridgeport, with first-degree larceny and first-degree computer crimes. Trowell was an employee at Hope Kitchen, a kitchen remodeling company located in the city. Her responsibilities included showing customers the showroom, gathering contact information and helping to design customers’ kitchens, in addition to responding to email, answering calls and ordering inventory. Podpolucha learned from the owner of Hope Kitchen that Trowell had allegedly had been diverting business to another company, and at least once spoke with a customer outside the business saying that she could help them get a price…

6:30pm--#Bridgeport CT-- An attempted robbery occured by two teens, one with a gun at  and  Reservoir Avenue near Alba Avenue.  The driver was about to get gas at the gas station and the two teens approached him, displayed a gun and demanded money.  The driver was still in their car and drove off.  Police are investigating.
