State Street near Bassick Avenue was quite the mess today when a truck took out a fire hydrant. Hydrants in the northeast are “dry hydrants” that is water shut off is below the ground so they will not freeze during the cold weather. The truck hit they hydrant just right snapping it below the ground at the water main. State Street remains closed while crews make repairs.
