On 09/05/2015 at approximately 1120 hrs the Westport Police Marine Division received a VHF distress call regarding a capsized vessel with three (3) people in the waters east of Cockenoe Island. Marine Officer Brendan Fearon and Detective Serenity Dobson responded to the area in Marine Unit 2 and located three adult males floating in the water separated from their vessel. All three men were pulled from the water onto the police boat and found to be in good health. All were wearing life jackets at the time their boat tipped over. Their boat, an 18’ canoe, was recovered and towed to Compo Marina. The three men had been fishing and capsized in the choppy waters. They reported they were in the water for 15 minutes before a passing sailboat spotted them and radioed the distress call.
