#FAIRFIELD, Connecticut (March 31, 2016) – For the April Diabetes and Chronic Disease Support Group, the Fairfield Health Department and the Department of Human Services Interns (from Sacred HeartUniversity), present “Addiction and Alcoholism”. The event will take place on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Bigelow Senior Center located at 100 Mona Terrace, Fairfield.

According to the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, substance abuse among those 60 years and older (including misuse of prescription drugs) currently affects about 17 percent of this population. During this discussion, the group will explore addiction, discuss alcoholism and its relation to other chronic diseases, and offer practical tips and strategies for living a healthier lifestyle. Whether you are providing care and support for a loved one struggling with addiction, or you yourself are having trouble controlling your own addictive behaviors when using substances, we have the facts for you.
