Westport Police UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as Cullen Walsh (age 39) of Weston, CT.
Preliminary information indicates speed and a failure to negotiate the roadway were factors in the accident. The incident remains under investigation.

 

Westport Police UPDATE: Weston Road is closed between Sipperley’s Hill Road and Silver Brook Road for a fatal motor vehicle crash investigation. Shortly before 1:00 a.m., the Westport Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a large fire in the area of 57 Weston Road. Arriving emergency units located a vehicle fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle had struck a utility pole, downing electrical wires. The Westport Police Department Accident Investigation Team and Detective Bureau are investigating the incident and the deceased has not yet been identified. More information will be released as it becomes available. The roadway will remain closed for an extended period of time and alternate routes should be used. Vehicles traveling southbound on Weston Road should detour east onto Lyons Plains Road, stay right onto Coleytown Road before turning right onto North Avenue, followed by a right onto Easton Road. Vehicles traveling northbound on Main Street towards Weston Road should stay right onto Easton Road/Route 136, then turn left onto North Avenue followed by a left onto Coleytown Road onto Lyons Plains Road. The United Methodist Church of Westport and Weston is accessible from the south (Silver Brook Road side) at the road closure.
