BRIDGEPORT, CT – Bridgeport families are invited to take part in two back-to-school events on Saturday, August 15, 2026, beginning with the city’s annual Backpack Giveaway at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center.

The Backpack Giveaway will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 999 Broad Street. Free backpacks will be available to Bridgeport students while supplies last.

Students must be present to receive a backpack, proof of Bridgeport residency is required, and there is a limit of one backpack per child.

The event is being supported by numerous city departments, community organizations, businesses, and sponsors working together to help Bridgeport students start the school year with needed supplies.

Families are also encouraged to continue the day at the Bridgeport Public Library’s Education & Literacy Fair at the Burroughs-Saden Main Library, 925 Broad Street.

The Education & Literacy Fair will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will feature free books, games, prizes, activities, and a food truck. Families should look for balloons on State Street for the entrance.

With the two events located just steps from one another, families can visit the Backpack Giveaway at 999 Broad Street and then head to the library for additional books, activities, food, and family fun.
