Disturbance at Calf Pasture Beach Leads to Arrest; Drugs and Weapon Recovered

NORWALK, CT — On October 23, 2025, at approximately 11:25 a.m., Norwalk Combined Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a disturbance at Calf Pasture Beach involving a driver operating erratically and threatening to shoot another motorist. Patrol officers responded, located the suspect BMW X1 traveling on Canfield Avenue, conducted a motor vehicle stop, and detained the operator, identified as Alexander Freedman, 37, of Norwalk, while the investigation proceeded.

Witnesses reported the driver had been speeding, driving recklessly, and performing donuts in the parking lot, and that when confronted, he threatened to shoot the individual with a gun from his vehicle. A search of the BMW recovered several vape cartridges, a glass jar of liquid hashish, multiple jars and bags of marijuana with a total combined weight of 4.817 pounds, and a metal impact weapon. Freedman was placed under arrest without incident.

Freedman was charged with Threatening in the Second Degree, Breach of Peace in the Second Degree, Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Possession with Intent to Sell 1 Kilogram or More of a Cannabis Substance, Sale of 1 Kilogram or More of a Cannabis Substance, Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Violation of Restricted Substances, Reckless Driving, and Failure to Renew Registration. He was held on a $125,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 6, 2025.

Overnight Fire on Helen Street Sends One to Hospital

Bridgeport firefighters battled heavy flames early this morning on Helen Street after a blaze tore through the second floor of a multi-unit building around 4:00 a.m. One occupant was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with injuries as crews worked for over half an hour to bring the fire under control. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, and the Red Cross has been called to assist displaced residents.

Optimum Business and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council Announce the Grant Winners of Lifting up Small Businesses in Bridgeport, Connecticut

25 businesses are being awarded a $5,000 grant each, fostering both their expansion and the vitality of Bridgeport communities

CONNECTICUT – Optimum Business, the leading provider of fiber internet, mobile, and TV services, and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC), the largest business association in the region, today announce the grant winners of the Lifting up Small Businesses in Bridgeport, Connecticut program, which will directly fund 25 small businesses in Bridgeport.  

Each small business will receive a $5,000 grant to help support their growth and long-term success while further expanding and contributing to the prosperity of the communities where they serve. Featured grant recipients include:  

  • All Things Eyes LLC: The optical boutique will use the grant to launch a targeted marketing campaign and build an advanced in-house optical lab, which will enable same-day prescription lenses. These efforts will boost their awareness, improve customer experience, and foster stronger ties with Bridgeport communities. 
  • Sound Coffee: With the grant, Sound Coffee will invest in a local SEO campaign and produce promotional flyers to expand their mobile coffee cart business and increase event bookings. This growth will enable them to add multiple carts, hire part-time baristas, and create new jobs within the area.  
  • Discovery Science Center and Planetarium: The nonprofit educational organization will use the funds to launch an integrated advertising campaign designed to raise awareness, attract new audiences, and position them as a premier regional destination for hands-on STEAM education and family-friendly exploration.The advertisements will highlight their improved facilities and spotlight new exhibits and special events, with the goal of increasing tourism and welcoming more families to Greater Bridgeport.  
  • Three Little Bears Day Care: To ensure a safe and engaging environment for all children at the day care center, the grant will help with purchasing classroom furniture, learning materials and supplies as well as completing facility improvements.
