DoingItLocal is run by Steve Krauchick. Steve has always had interest with breaking news even as an early teen, opting to listen to the Watergate hearings instead of top 40 on the radio. His interest in news spread to become the communities breaking news leader in Connecticut’s Fairfield County. He strongly believes that the public has right to know what is happening in their backyard and that government needs to be transparent. Steve also likes promoting local businesses.
10:23am–#Bridgeport Connecticut– Firefighters are on scene confirming a downed tree in the 500 block Stratfield Road. The tree is in a yard, not in a street but there could be delays. This is a couple houses from Assumption Church.
1:17pm–#Stratford Connecticut–#Bridgeport Connecticut– Police are looking for a blue Hyundai Sonota stolen out of Stratford. The car owner located and recovered it in Bridgeport yesterday. The owner looks out the drive and finds it missing again!
12:40pm–#Bridgeport Connecticut– A gunshot victim just showed up at Bridgeport Hospital. The victim is not cooperating. Around midnight there were reports of shots fired in the Old Town Chopsey Hill area.
11:11pm–#Bridgeport Connecticut– A man shot in the 400 block of Wells Street is a homicide but has not been officially announced by the police officials. The man was shot in the upper body. A little over a month and a a half a man was shot in the same area of the street and was driven to the hospital. He survived.
6:50pm– A woman was stabbed several times in front of the Popeye’s on Fairfield Avenue. The victim is possibly a prostitute and the man had tried turning her in to police in the past according to radio reports. The man was reported to be carrying a mallet and nails according to one radio report. He ran to the old Mimi Dragone’s lot next door and then stabbed himself. No mention how the mallet and nails entered into play other than he was carrying them.
Norwalk Police Detectives are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday at 11:10 am at the Gold Rush Pawn Shop located at 495 Connecticut Avenue. Suspect 1 is described as black male, approximately 6’-1”, muscular build with long dread locks. Suspect 2 is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5’-9”, medium build. Suspect 2 displayed a handgun during the robbery. #Westport, CT –The Westport Assessor’s Office reminds all veterans (or widows/widowers of veterans) who have served during an active period of war for at least 90 days and have received an honorable discharge to file their DD-214 in the Town Clerk’s Office prior to September 30, 2016. The exemption is $6,000 off an assessment and will be reflected in the July 2017 tax bill. Veterans who have already filed and are receiving an exemption do not need to re-file.
The Town of Westport also offers a local option for an additional $20,000 off of an assessment. Please note that this is an income qualifying program. Maximum qualifying income is $60,200 for a single veteran and $67,900 for a married veteran. Applications for this program will be accepted prior to September 30, 2016.
A member of the armed forces who is currently on active duty may be eligible for an In-Service Exemption and have one passenger motor vehicle garaged inside or outside the State exempt from property tax. To qualify, the individual must submit a form annually confirming “on active duty” by signing the attestation statement (www.westportct.gov
