Bridgeport News: Senator Gomes Calls for Fair Chance Employment

HARTFORD, CT - Today, Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) joined advocates in support of House Bill 5237: An Act Concerning Fair Chance Employment. The bill is a set of hiring policies for private employers, designed to ensure that applicants with criminal records are evaluated on the merits of their qualifications, not on their criminal records.   “We have too many hard-working people trying to find jobs that are being disqualified,” said Sen. Gomes. “We need to give everyone that is looking for a job a fair shot. UPDATE: Two car crash at North and Wood Avenue with two on the way to the hospital.  The crash at Norman Street wasn't a crash but a car that ran up on a front lawn. 11:24pm--#Bridgeport CT-- For the second time today there are two accidents at the same time on North Avenue, but this time they are not related.  One accident at North and Wood Avenue. K-9 Graduation

A graduation for K-9 was recently held at Fairfield Police Department for Fairfield, Trumbull, Derby and Seymour.  Fairfield Police Chief Gary MacNamara said K-9's make our department better.  First Selectman Michael Tetreau agreed, citing K-9 Ruger's at his retirement ceremony a few months back.  K-9 Ruger had to retire over health issues.   Frank Reda from Superior K-9 said the benefit is teamwork, that each town will share the dogs and the same training allows police  K-9 to "plug and play", that is each officer and K-9 knows what is expected.   The graduates were Fairfield Officer Kevin Wells with K-9 Jager, Fairfield Officer Evan Kaesmann with Maverick, Trumbull Officer Richard Carlson with Cyrus, Trumbull Officer Gregory Lee with Storm, Seymour Officer…
