Congressman Jim Himes (CT-04) announced The WorkPlace will receive a nearly $2 million Youth Apprenticeship Readiness Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. The WorkPlace is a workforce development organization that has been serving Southwest Connecticut for over 36 years. “Education is the path forward for individuals and America to build a strong future in the 21st Century,” said Congressman Himes. “The WorkPlace’s efforts to train young adults in Southwest Connecticut for careers in manufacturing is crucial. Bridgeport News: Homicide #10

On July 10, 2020 at 0159 hours, a Shot Spotter activation indicated gunfire at PT Barnum apartments near building 4. A uniformed police detail that was working in the area responded to the incident and were met by a large crowd. Officers discovered a 21 year old male lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as Teon Kelly of Bridgeport was transported by medics to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Officer at the shooting scene attempted to identify witnesses, but no one would cooperate with officers, despite that fact that it appears there were dozens of people present when the shooting occurred. Bridgeport News: Motorcycle Crash

Police UPDATE: On July 9, 2020 at approximately 9:10pm Bridgeport Patrol Officers and Bridgeport Firefighters responded to the scene of a serious crash at the intersection of State Street and Park Avenue. Shortly after 9:00pm this evening, the operator of a yellow 2005 Suzuki DRZ400 motorcycle was traveling eastbound on State Street at a high rate of speed. As the motorcyclist approached the intersection of State Street and Park Avenue a female pedestrian, located just west of the intersection, was crossing State Street on foot. The motorcycle struck the female pedestrian causing her to be sent into the westernmost portion of the intersection along with the motorcycle operator; who was ejected during the crash.
