At around 2:30 p.m., Bridgeport Police responded to Broad Street and Linden Avenue after reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a child on a bicycle. Officers found that a young boy had been struck and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with a possible broken arm. The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with police. No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.
A man was shot at the plaza at 1500 Reservoir Avenue. Multiple reports say the man in his 20s was grazed in the abdomen and that he was conscious and alert. Witness said they heard two shots. The man was taken to the hospital and police have the area blocked to traffic for their investigation.

Bridgeport firefighters battled heavy flames early this morning on Helen Street after a blaze tore through the second floor of a multi-unit building around 4:00 a.m. One occupant was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with injuries as crews worked for over half an hour to bring the fire under control. The Fire Marshal is investigating the cause, and the Red Cross has been called to assist displaced residents.
Report of a mobile home fire in front of 234 DeForest Ave in Bridgeport. Firefighters on scene knocked down the fire without it extending to the building. There are no further updates at this time.
Police are at Boston and Seaview Avenue with a moped involved in a serious crash. The area is closed for the investigation.

25 businesses are being awarded a $5,000 grant each, fostering both their expansion and the vitality of Bridgeport communities
CONNECTICUT – Optimum Business, the leading provider of fiber internet, mobile, and TV services, and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC), the largest business association in the region, today announce the grant winners of the Lifting up Small Businesses in Bridgeport, Connecticut program, which will directly fund 25 small businesses in Bridgeport.

The Bridgeport Police Department today confirmed that Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, 24, who was found unresponsive in the street on Black Rock Ave. at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Rayo-Mairena’s one year-old daughter was found unharmed on the front porch of a house, several yards from her mother’s body. She was left there by a suspect. The child has been reunited with a family member through the state Department of Children and Families.
The victim was a native of Nicaragua and lived on Black Rock Ave. with her daughter.
A motive for the homicide is still being established. Domestic violence is not being ruled out.
Homicide detectives have developed strong leads and have received significant help from the community. They are reviewing a large amount of surveillance videos and are making strong progress.
The Bridgeport Police Department believes the homicide is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the general public.
